Steve Rice los gatosFall is one of the best times to travel, especially internationally, because it is considered the off-season for many traveling companies and airlines. Though you might have taken a long vacation over the summer, you may want to plan next year differently. With cheaper flights, hotels, and plenty of festivities to take part in all over the world, traveling during the fall is a wonderful idea.

If you have the time in the next few months to go on a vacation (even if it’s short), it is highly recommended that you do so. If you’re more of a planner, now is a great time to start saving up and even booking for next year’s fall excursion. Here are just a few of the many great places to visit as autumn settles in:

Steve Rice los gatosFirst, Germany is a great destination during September and October because it is Oktoberfest in Munich. In short, this means enjoying an authentic, german folk celebration filled to the brim with beer. And if you’re drinking, you have no choice but to try german cuisine, like pretzels bigger than your head and wurst. If you really want to get into the festival spirit, you can shop locally around the fairgrounds and buy an german outfit – dirndls for the ladies, and lederhosens for the men.

Another great place to travel to as the leaves change is our country’s very own Northeast. If you’ve never been to New England, this season is the time to do it. Not only will you experience fall in its most vibrant yellows and oranges, but you can experience all the fall activities many New Englanders take part in. This includes apple-picking, pumpkin-picking, indulging in new flavors of hot coffee, and butternut squash soup. If you can, make your way to Boston, it’s one of the most beautiful cities in New England during the fall (plus, you can indulge in some great shopping on Newbury Street).

Steve Rice los gatosIndia is last on this list of places to visit during autumn, which hosts the Diwali Festival of Light in November. This is India’s largest and most alluring festival that lasts for over five days, displaying fireworks, religious ceremonies, and a multitude of other exciting, unique events that you’ll find spectacular. Varanasi, a city along the Ganges, in particular has an amazing firework display over the historic river.

So, if you’re yearning to get out of your hometown this fall, go with your gut and explore the amazing scenes that the rest of the world has to offer. Afterall, a change of season should mean a change in perspective – and what better way to gain a new perspective than to experience life from a foreign place.
